Program Overview
What is Army Child Care in your Neighborhood (ACCYN)?
The Army Child Care in Your Neighborhood program is a partnership between the U.S. Army and Child Care Aware (National Association of Resource & Referral Agencies, NACCRRA,) to bring the high standards of the military child care system to civilian child care in communities where Army Families have limited access to on-post care. Participating programs receive training, technical assistance and quality improvement funds. In return, providers agree to become accredited or complete a Child Development Associate's Degree (CDA) and to prioritize a certain number of child care spaces for service members.
The objective of this program is to ensure civilian child care is comparable in quality to Army-operated on-post spaces. The civilian child care spaces must meet established Department of Defense (DoD) and Army standards.
The Army will also offer fee assistance to active duty families who use quality off-post civilian child care. NACCRA pays subsidies directly to the child care provider. Subsidies are based on Army and DoD child care fee ranges, income eligibility requirements, geographic and demographic considerations, local market rates, and the availability of subsidy funding.
Families' Eligibility
Families eligible for ACCYN fee assistance include active duty and deployed Army, National Guard and Reserve families, recruiters and civilian DoD employees. To be eligible, the parent must be working or in school at least part-time. All families who meet these criteria and are enrolled for care at an active ACCYN provider are eligible to apply for fee assistance through ACCYN. Further details on eligibility are available from the Child Care Aware military fee assistance website.
